It all began at Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, in Professor Janusz Stanny’s class of book design, with childrens’ book Lokomotywiątko (Little Steam Engine) by Joanna Kulmowa.
Since then letters, signs, images have become a commonplace to me…
Books are my thing. I design their layouts as well as covers, and make illustrations based on traditional or digital techniques. I am also familiar with later stages of book production such as typesetting and page makeup. I have already worked for several publishers (WSiP, Cis, Petit, Institute of Literary Research) and made designs for non-profit organizations: the Civic Institute; the Diaspora’s Memory Association; Women Matter: Foundation for Women’s Issues, Rights and Affairs; the Orange Foundation. Another of my challenges is designing periodicals: Motorcycles’ World and Economics, to name a few.
In addition, I have conceived several art exhibits, many of them promoting ideas and contributions of authors from the circle of Kultura, the renowned Polish journal published in Paris.
I am also very much into applied design: signs, posters, visual identities, and advertising photography.
As a designer I have a lot of experience and a head full of ideas.
My long term cooperation with offset and digital printing providers taught me a great deal. When working on graphic design projects you have to anticipate how the technology you use will influence their visual form. You have to capitalize on their strengths keeping in mind the constraints. That’s why I am learning all the time, trying to combine respect for traditional principles of design and typography with openness to the challenges of contemporary world.
